This report presents the views of Service Users
and their needs and expectations of a Crisis House in Camden. Intended primarily to assist
the Crisis House Project Group, it should also be a source of useful information for
anybody involved in Mental Health.
We interviewed a sample of 73 Camden residents who are all
Mental Health Service Users. Our sample was made up of 48% male and 52% female, ranging in
age from 15yrs to 70yrs. 84% of our sample have had a psychiatric admission to hospital,
although not necessarily in the last two years. Our research included Service Users from
Out-patients Wards, In-patients Wards, Day Centres, Day Hospitals, Drop-In Services,
existing Crisis House Services and other organisations.
Our question concerning ethnic backgrounds revealed a wide
variety of cultures, which reflects the diverse nature of the Borough of Camden. (Please
refer to appendix 2. ).
All figures are given in percentages throughout the report
including the bar charts and the pie chart. Some questions had multiple choice answers,
which may make the percentages total to more than one hundred. (For any queries about the
figures please see appendix 2. ).
Our research shows that the majority of our interviewees would not want to pay
for the service, but would use both a Crisis House and a 24hr Crisis Drop-in Service. |
